Max has a bed in every room except the bathroom. Mind you I only have a small house, but I think any room my boy is allowed in should have a bed for his comfort.
When choosing a bed I look for durability, quality and washability as well as comfort. I wash his beds often and expect them to last and look good. I use vetbed or a mat in his crate and when he goes to doggie hotel I am particular that he always has vet bed in his 'pad'.
