Breed Standards

There are two 'types' of Jack Russell only one of which is recognised by the Kennel Club in the UK.
The breed known as Parsons Jack Russell is registered as a breed with the KC and the standards are laid down by them for this breed.
The Reverand Jack Russell who lived in Oxfordshire bought a white and tan bitch and from her he breed a line of dogs noted for their hunting. These dogs had great stamina and heart, as well as a great courage to hunt foxs.
The split in the breed happened very early on, as the sister of Russell's kennelman started selling "Jack Russells" but saying that they may not have been of part of the lines being bred by Jack Russell himself.
