He is now starting ‘mini agility’ and the trainer said he was a natural as we had our first lesson. He has been training dogs for many years and he was surprised that Max was ‘just doing it’ as if he was a veteran. He said we are going to have great fun!
Sunday saw us in the New Forest where we had an impromptu picnic. We went to Hythe and Ashley Creek.
There is little time to write today, however please do notice that Max is wearing his Help for Heroes
collar. He also has a matching lead and ‘dog tag’ which are in the post and we are proud to support this charity dedicated to those who serve all of us every single day.
So Bank Holiday Monday looked a bit bleak. We had decided to set of for Warsash, but I had problem with the Sat Nav. Long story short, we ended up taking Max to West Beach Littlehampton! Miles away! It is a really great place. Tiny car park so you need to be there early, but you will find a WONDERFUL sandy beach. It goes out for miles and is very shallow when tide is out. Max had a dip in the sea and rolled in the sand, NICE! (Bathed on return home, salty little sea dog)
There is a little place to get tea (no chips, too early!) Lots of other dogs around, all seemed to have dogs under control which is good. Max is still upset with dogs that rush towards him, but no problems here.
After we left we went to Climping, warning, do not go here with a dog. Car park is divided into cars with and without dogs, maybe fair enough, but the car park for dogs was covered in broken glass and you cannot go to the refreshments stand to get a drink if you have your dog with you! I will be writing to them when I find their details.
We finished up at Pagham, had tea and chips in the rain, then off home with one tired little dog.
OK, so today we had a lot to fit in! Mainly dictated by the fact I needed to be home to watch Badminton Horse Trials today. So, up early, drive down to Emsworth and route out Noar Barn Woods! Another great find. Very picturesque, very limited parking, but a great walk. From here we walked towards Hayling Island, can see for miles. We only did the seashore walk, will do the woods on next visit. Max loved this place, tried to be a pointer and eat seaweed, both with no success! (See pictures!). Then home, drop Max off for his breakfast, over to Four Marks to Rumours Cafe for human brekkie and then swift return to watch the horses. Max watched some of the eventing, then decided to have a major sleep in his sleeping bag! Tough Life for some!
Making the most of the May Day Holiday we started ours Friday evening with a quick trip to Emsworth, the plan was walk round harbour then chips out of newspaper!
We ended up a little ‘off plan’. We have been to Emsworth many many times, as a kid I seemed to be forever in the hospital there having x-rays after various ‘equine mishaps’, I had my own spot in X-Ray! However in all that time we seemed to have missed the signs to ‘Nature Reserve’. What a great place! Hidden behind Tescos is a place called Brook Meadow. What a find, nice walks and just minutes away from the busy town. Max seemed to love all the new smells and places to investigate. I have added some pictures, this is our first visit, but I am sure we will have many more!
Oh, the chips, we ended up going to Hayling and eating a bag of chips watching over the sea. Perrfick!
Today started with a storm and was very wet and foggy and in fact dismal. However we had planned to visit Hill Head, which is down the road from Lee on The Solent. So we set off thinking at least we could have a drive out.
What a find! As we arrived the sun started to shine and the wind even calmed down. We had picked my mum up and she had her all weather gear, I am pleased to report it was not needed.
This is a real little hidey hole of a place, It has a great row of beach dwellings, like little holiday cottages, right along the sea.
You pass through these via a footpath, and wish to win the lottery so you can buy one. They cannot be lived in full time (a bit like Mudiford) and so they are second homes, each is different and the front ones even have their own private beach. At the end is a really splendid walk up a hill path to a great viewing point. I am told you can walk all the way to Warsash along the path.
Sadly parts of the beach are strewn with rubbish, lots of plastic, fishing line and even gun cartridges. Such a crying shame. This all backs onto Tichfield Nature Reserve, so hopefully it does get cleaned up now and again.
Once you get past the rubbish there is a lot of beach to walk along. Max went in the sea! Chasing a bit of old timber, he was doing well until he was ‘drowned’ by a wave, well it went over his head, but was not a monster unless you are knee high to a grass hopper! He was most put out so he rolled in what little sand he could find. Took some nice pictures, hope you like them. Then it was a whizz off to Stokes bay for tea and chips before a nice drive home via Stubbington.
Max was a little salty so had a quick wash and brush up when he got home. He is now fast asleep on the sofa looking all fluffy and sweet!
I know it has been very quiet for last few weeks from Max. Reason, partner has broken his leg in two places and he was in hospital for a week! He is home now, however Max had to go to Doggie Hotel for 3 weeks while we sorted things out at home. Which included moving the ‘blat pen!’ so as it butted up against door so Robin could let Max out for ‘comfort breaks’ and to play which I was at work. Thanks a million to brother in law, it was back breaking work, but proved to be a godsend as it meant we could have Max home and be safe in the knowledge that he and R could cope!
Max went to stay at K9-sleepover (as shown on our links page). He arrived there a little stressed having been overwhelmed by the whole affair including 3 paramedics carrying ‘dad’ away in ambulance, followed next morning by visit to vets for Kennel Cough booster!
After 3 weeks Max arrived home chilled and VERY happy. The ‘hotel’ is simply the best and we would not send Max anywhere else. He is so happy there and thinks he is ‘King’ (as always) and the owner and staff are just so good with him that I had no worries while he was away. I was unhappy without him, but I know he was in the best place.
So now we have the SNOW and Max thinks that is just GREAT fun, he was so funny today as he jumped into a big splodge of snow and disappeared up to his ears. He just popped back up, shock himself off and continued to run and jump all over the place. And this time I did not have camera. I have to be careful not to slip, having two of us with broken bones would just not be funny.
I have taken some snaps of Max in the snow, some are a bit blurred as he was too fast for me to keep up. Hope you enjoy the snaps! These are before the second lot of snow that caused the chaos around North Hampshire!! Stay safe. And we wish you all a Happy Holiday and look forward to more news in 2010!
Oh, by the way, Max has some splendid Xmas Pressies from Nanny Shelia, photos to follow once he has opened on Xmas day!
Well I had an extended break this Easter and sadly was not able to fly out to see my friend in the Middle East so had a ‘staycation’
This has allowed us to have more time with Max and we have been very lucky with the weather. This week Max has been to Stokes Bay, Twice!. Alresford, Twice! Lee on Solent, Twice, Stubbington, Twice!, Emsworth, Twice…. and Southsea, Once, but going again tomorrow!
Max has been in the sea! Today he even ….. swam! OK only a few ‘strokes’ but swim he did! He also was really excited to see a helicopter ‘rescue’ exercise at Stokes Bay! He was amused by the swans at Emsworth as they followed along after him, hissing a little which surprised the poor little chap!
We have a ‘naughty’ ritual at Stokes Bay, it means, tea, chips and ice cream, all shared with Max! Only a little of each for him, but he does enjoy it!
And guess what!? We found the lost camera! Found by a diligent and honest neighbour who saw me drop it getting into the car at home, although she did not catch us for a couple of days. So snaps are taken again of wee dog… Here are latest shots! I am in the process of adding and tweaking www.jackahuahua.net so do pop along and have a peek, please also sign our guestbook, would love to hear from you!
Well Max’s ‘dad’ is much more mobile now and so we are getting out more! Last weekend saw our first trip of the year to Stokes Bay. See pictures of Max in the Sea! He went in quite deep! After a dip he then rolled in the little sand that could be found. So trip followed by bath! Pictures are from that day.
During the recent ‘lull’ I have been updating our website. Have added FAQ, a live talk feature, Jackahuahua Store and more readers Jackahuahuas have been added.
Had a MAJOR problem yesterday, I have LOST my Camera! I think it fell on the floor at sometime yesterday when we went for a trip to Southsea! I could cry as it had some great pictures of MAX that I had not yet downloaded! So I will keep you updated of Max’s exploits, but for now no photos!
It was so nice today that we decided to make the best of the sun! So stopping first to pick up mum we took Max to Stokes Bay ~ Gosport. Again and again this place is just such a great place to go. And now we can go on any part of the beach. Woo Hoo! Although it was not the warmest of days Max decided to brave the sea. Several times. He went in over the top of his legs! Cannot blame him for not going a lot further, it was chilly!
We then retired for a quick pit stop for tea and chips! Max decided he should have both. OK, not a great diet all round, but a few chips are not to be staple diet items, but when at the seaside they seem to be a must for humans and their K9s!
Max was also treated to new crate mat, blankie (blanket), chews and another toy. (Thanks Mum!!! He loves mat and blankie!!!)
